Ultimate Frisbee is an exciting, non-contact team sport, played by thousands over the world. It mixes the best features of sports such as Soccer, Basketball, and American Football into an elegantly simple yet fascinating and demanding game. To compete at the top level, Ultimate players require an unmatched degree of speed, stamina and agility. Yet the simplicity of the rules means it’s easy and fun for newcomers to pick up. Oh, and by the way, it’s played with a flying disc (a “Frisbee”).
Flying High Tilburg is a Dutch Ultimate Frisbee Club which was founded in 1989 by Peter van Rijen, as an assignment to replace his military service. He started at the sportscentre of the Tilburg University with a clear mission; promote this new and exciting sport in Tilburg. He managed to gather some frisbee fanatics and they played a first demonstrationgame in Eindhoven against Vertigo. They tipped the group from Tilburg to join the Ultimate Frisbee National Championships which were held in Arnhem. So they chose a name, designed a logo and joined the tournament in april 1989. At their first tournament they played reasonably well and finished it as 27th out of 36 teams. The enthousiasm grew, and at the end of 1989 Flying High participated the indoorcompetition for the first time.
In the season 1999/2000 Flying High 1 became champion in the 2th division. Flying High 2 became champion in the 3th division. In the season of 2003/2004 both teams played in 2th division, both in the upper half. Outdoor we played with one team in the upper half of the 2nd division. Nowadays (since 2010) Flying High plays with one team during the indoorcompetition in winter. For the outdoorcompetition we collaborated with our friends from Vertigo Eindhoven to form one ‘Brabant Ultimate Team’ (BUT). Together we managed to climb from 5th to 3th division! YEAH! Since 2013, after five years of absence, we managed to create our own outdoorteam again. AND we played the Monsterball beachtournament together with Vertigo Eindhoven as BUT. Which was GREAT GREAT fun. In 2014 we started in 5th division again, promoted to 4th on the second day and stayed for the whole season! Almost promoted to 3th division. Our goal for 2015! The indoorseason 2014-2015 was even a bigger blast! Starting in 4th division, we promoted twice in a row to 2nd division, and promoted to 1st division on last competition day by winning the 2nd division!
